[dropcap]P[/dropcap]ope Francis was born in Flores, Buenos Aires, Argentina on 17th December, 1936. He is pope of the Catholic Church in Vatican City State. He always advised priests to help the poor people by showing mercy and by opening the door always to the poor people. The worst thing he sees happening in church is the self-centered nature. He always said that his people were poor and so he. He lived in an apartment where cooking and other chores were only done by him.

His father was an accountant in railways and mother was a housewife. The family consisted of 5 children. He graduated as a chemical technician before becoming a priest. In 1969, he was ordained and in 1973, he made the final profession with Jesus. The important point of his education was finishing his doctoral thesis in 1986. In 1992 he was appointed as the Bishop of Auca and Auxiliary of Buenos Aires.

In 1997, he became the dignity of Coadjutor Archbishop of Buenos Aires. Eight months later, he was raised as Archbishop. After three years, he became the General Relator to the 10th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the Episcopal Ministry. He was given the position of President of the Argentine Bishops’ conference in 2002, but was declined by him; He was later selected for the position in 2005 followed by a re-election in 2008 for another 3 years.

In 2013, he was elected as Supreme Pontiff. He did great job in evangelization while aiming for major goals; assisting the poor and sick people, efforts of evangelization to all people in the city, giving major role to laity in evangelization, open communication. He launched a unity campaign in 2009 for the bicentenary of the freedom for the country. There are around 200 charity agencies to be formed by 2016. He is also a member of many religious and social organizations.
